A native Washingtonian, John has spent his entire working life in the restaurant industry and has cultivated an understanding of all aspects of the industry through his experience in every position ultimately achieving ownership of his own restaurants. His experience has allowed him the ability to create a management team that has mostly been with him since the beginning and continues to grow with him in each new restaurant.
Upon completing his bachelor’s degree at Florida State University, John teamed up with his brother to create Asylum, A Rock & Roll Bar in Washington D. C. After 15 years with Asylum, he went on to open Meridian Pint in 2010. Meridian Pint has since catapulted to one of DC’s most renowned craft beer establishments. After three years of investment with John in Meridian Pint, a small corps of 10 investors have realized returns of nearly tripling their investment.
In 2011, after a 20-year run, John closed Asylum, rebranded it as Smoke & Barrel and reopened to great acclaim. Smoke & Barrel now stands as one of DC’s best BBQ joints featuring an extensive craft beer and bourbon selection. 2014 marked the opening of John’s third restaurant, Brookland Pint, a similar concept to Meridian Pint with its own unique character. Into its second year, Brookland Pint is meeting and beating expectations in the Brookland Community.
StartFragment John is also an active member of his community, participating in many charity fundraising events in his restaurants as well as throughout the DC community.
